How do you use dashboards?
I'm trying to understand the various reasons and purposes for which people use dashboards. If you are willing to have a chat with me about this, please DM
Reminder to readers who missed the previous edition: As I look to start a company, I’ve pivoted this dormant blog to document my founding process. I’ll still be talking about data science, business intelligence, analytics and related subjects here, only that it’ll be mostly directly related to the company I’m looking to build.
I’ll also be putting some generic stories here as part of the founding process. This is one of those.
Dear Reader,
I need a favour from you. I want to talk to you, and know how you use dashboards, assuming you use them as part of your job. What dashboarding tool do you use? What kind of data does the dashboard represent? How often do you use it? What does your existing dashboard do well? What does it do badly? And so on and so forth.
For the last few weeks, I’ve been working off a hypothesis regarding dashboards and data insights. Now, before I end up building too deeply based on what is admittedly a small sample of companies and use cases (my clients over the last decade, and my last employer ), I want to make sure that what I’m looking to solve is a valid problem, and one that people will ultimately pay me to solve.
If you are someone who uses dashboards at work and are happy to talk me through the use cases, likes and dislikes, I want to talk to you. You can either leave a comment below or reply to this email, and I’ll get in touch. And I promise I won’t take too much of your time.
Cheers, and thanks in advance!
Karthik
PS: I’ve shared this here before but check out this really awesome post by Avinash Kaushik on how not to do dashboards, or how not to “data puke”.
Hi Karthik, I have sent an email regarding the usage of dashboards in our day to day business landscape. Please give a read.
Hi Karthik. Feel free to ping me on this.
